Best practices for website visit tracking
Follow these practices to get complete visit data from the tracking pixel. The UTM tips apply to Audience Visits. Reveal only needs the pixel and a whitelisted domain.
Tracking pixel
Whitelist every domain that runs the pixel under Tracking Pixel → Whitelisted domains. The pixel doesn't record visits on domains that aren't whitelisted.
Use a tag manager. Google Tag Manager makes the pixel easier to manage and update.
Install it on every page, not just your landing pages. In Google Tag Manager, use the All Pages trigger.
Check that data arrives in Visits after you install it.
UTM parameters for Audience Visits
One audience per campaign. Don't mix several ContactLevel audiences in one campaign.
Apply it everywhere. Every ad targeting the audience needs that audience's
cl_audienceparameter.Keep a record of which parameter is used in which campaign.
Test before launch by clicking through your ad and checking the landing page URL.
Verify your setup
Visit your website after installing the pixel.
Use your browser's developer tools to confirm the pixel loads. Look for requests to
px.personsync.com, ContactLevel's own pixel.Click through one of your ads and confirm the landing page URL still contains
cl_audience.Check that the visit appears in ContactLevel.
If something doesn't work
Check the code sits in the
<head>section and wasn't changed during installation.Clear browser or CDN caches that may serve an old version of your page.
Test in a different browser with ad blockers off.
Confirm the parameter format and that the ID matches the audience you're targeting.
