Using your audiences in Meta Ads Manager

Updated by Dag

After you sync an audience to Meta, it shows up in Meta Ads Manager as a Custom Audience with the same name as your ContactLevel audience. You select it at ad set level.

Before you start

  • Sync your audience to Meta Ads. The status in the Syncs window should show Synced.

  • Give Meta time to match. The audience can take up to 24 hours to fill, depending on its size.

Add the audience to an ad set

  1. In Meta Ads Manager, open your campaign and go to the ad set.

  2. Scroll to the Audience section.

  3. Click Further limit the reach of your ads so Meta doesn't expand delivery beyond your audience.

  4. Under Custom Audiences, select the audience with the same name as your ContactLevel audience.

  5. Check the estimated reach and publish.

Leave Advantage+ Audience off if you only want to reach the people in your ContactLevel audience. With it on, Meta expands delivery to people outside your list. See Meta Ads: troubleshooting common issues for how to switch it off.

Keep the audience up to date

When you add contacts in ContactLevel, open the audience's Syncs window and click Run next to Meta Ads again. The Custom Audience updates in place, so your ad sets keep targeting it without changes.

Tips

  • Use your ContactLevel audience as a lookalike seed if it has 500+ contacts.

  • Watch frequency on small audiences so the same people don't see your ad too often.

  • Add the audience's cl_audience parameter to your ad's landing page URL to see which audience members visit your site. See Finding your audience's UTM parameter.
